Insurance verification in Dentrix
How a front desk on Dentrix verifies dental insurance today, and what changes when Stratus does it.
How it works today
In Dentrix (G7 and earlier desktop versions), the patient's dental insurance plan and coverage table sit in the Family File. Many offices use an electronic eligibility check where available, then fill in deductibles, maximums and frequencies from a portal or a call.
Before the appointment, someone at the front desk confirms the patient's coverage is active, then gets the detail that decides what the patient owes: deductible and how much is met, annual maximum and how much is used, coverage by category, frequencies (how often cleanings, exams and X-rays are covered), waiting periods, missing-tooth clauses and the history of what was already done this year.
Active coverage is the easy part. The detail usually means a payer portal, a fax-back or a phone call to the payer, often on hold, and then typing the answers into the patient's record by hand.
How it works with Stratus
- Our AI calls the insurance payer for the practice. We make those calls for you, so there are no phone calls and no portals for the front desk.
- Every breakdown is checked by a real person. Breakdowns are custom: codes, frequencies, limitations and history, not just "active".
- Results are written back into your practice management system, including Dentrix, so the front desk sees them where it already works.
- There's an optional alert in Dentrix G7: when a patient's insurance comes back inactive or not covered, it pops up the moment you open that patient. Your office turns it on in Settings.
